Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, V. Muraleedharan, will be leading the 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations in Thiruvananthapuram on 21 June 2022. The chosen site in the State is Shree Padmanabhaswamy temple, East Gate. It is pertinent to note that the location is selected as one of the 75 iconic locations in India, where IDY celebrations will be carried out by the Government of India.

The event starts at 6 am, where MoS Shri Muraleedharan will address the gathering. An important element of the event is the Live relay of PM Shri Narendra Modi’s IDY address. During the event yoga demonstration will be carried out based on Common Yoga Protocol. While, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will lead the IDY 2022 event in Mysuru, his remarks and yoga demonstration will be carried live in India and across the world. The programme is being held in the physical mode after a gap of two years due to the pandemic.

The Ministry of AYUSH along with the Ministry of External Affairs is organising a unique attraction called the Guardian Ring, which will capture and weave together digital feed of International Day of Yoga programmes organised by Indian Missions abroad. The plan is to initiate the streaming from Japan, the land of the rising sun, at 3 A.M IST and it will culminate at USA and Canada. Around 70 countries are likely to participate in the relay event which will be telecast live on Door Darshan from 03:00 AM (IST) to 10: 00 PM (IST).

According to sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, “Yoga Guardian Ring’ derives inspiration from the concept of “One Sun, One Earth”, which exhibits the “unifiying power of Yoga”. IDY 2022 will unite people across the globe, who will join the celebrations at iconic places of global significance.”

This year’s International Day of Yoga celebrations are said to be the grandest yet as India is also celebrating the 75th Year of its independence. On International Yoga Day, 75 ministers of the Central Government will perform Yoga at 75 historical and cultural sites in the country.

Home Minister Amit Shah will participate in Yoga programs at the famous Jyotirlinga Trimbakeshwar temple complex in Nashik, Maharashtra on Yoga Day, while External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will lead the event at Delhi’s Purana Quila.
